What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? North Carolina
I don't know if this is the correct forum to post this question too, but I did not find any other subject forum close to this topic.
Recently, my wife got extremely intoxicated and decided to get attention by performing a meager attempt to cut her wrist. She wasn't seriously attempting suicide as the cut was shallow (not cutting any veins) but did require a couple of stitches. I took her to the emergency room of the local hospital, and they immediately filed for an involuntary commitment due to the fact that she purposely harmed herself. Before I proceed any further, I want to make it clear that she suffers from Bipolar disorder and is seeing a psychiatrist. This doctor was never consulted by the local hospital. The problem is, they want to commit her for psychiatric evaluation for 4 -5 days at a facility located in another part of the state. I have no objections to this as I feel that it would be most beneficial. However, there are no vacancies at present and the local hospital is holding her in a "cell" until an opening is available. Both Her and I want her home until an opening is available. There is another patient in the same hospital who has been held in the same type of "cell" for over a week waiting for an opening. This can be extremely detrimental to her recovery. My question is: How can I get her out of there immediately and perhaps bring her home until the opening is available? It is, after all nearly Thanksgiving and legal professionals will not be available until after the holiday. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
