What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Florida
A 19 year old from Florida committed suicide and allowed several people to view it by his webcam on a lifecasting site.
Before doing so he posted a thread on a bodybuilding site stating he was going to kill himself by overdosing on a combination of two prescription medications. He also left a suicide note in the thread. Other members, including moderators, had instead of either ignoring him or trying to talk to him egged him on to do it.
On cam he took the pills in front of 1200 viewers and then laid down. He was lying for about 4 hours dying before anyone decided he was for real and to call the police.
On the bodybuilding site another member pleaded with others to contact the police with the 19 year old's information and the county sheriff's department phone number yet no one did anything except to continue to make comments and "egg him on", not even the moderators of the forum. Finally someone from a different country had contacted the sheriff's department and on webcam viewers watching the young man die also saw the Police enter with guns drawn and an emt. He was confirmed dead and since then members at the forum have been frantically deleting and editing their posts.
While understanding that the 19 year old killed himself and no one else had killed him, is anyone of those who refused to do something as they watched him lie motionless for 4 hours or anyone who had egged him on liable in anyway? What about the lifecasting site who allowed this to go on for 12 hours and didn't bother to remove it or report it?
Lori Drew who created the fake myspace profile name that ended up playing a role in the 16 year old's suicide was charged, wouldn't someone be responsible in this situation as well?
