The Child Support Collection Unit of a neighboring county helped a woman file a support petition against me for her 11 year old daughter. The funny thing is that I never met the woman or had sex with her. Mistaken identity right? Sort of. Anyway, I hired a lawyer, went to court, she didn't show and directed court to withdraw the petition which was done and dismissed without prejudice.

I was able to get some answers as to why I was petitioned from the investigators at Support Collection. The woman gave my name, my spouse's name, the college my spouse and I attended and the years in which we graduated. She further described a person who is clearly not me. Fraternity membership, Navy enrollment, nickname that I never used, went to fraternity parties. In short stuff that could easily be proven or disproven before serving me with paternity papers. After court, I relinquished my attorney's services and began my own investigation of this matter. Long story short, my wife and I attended the same college as this girl. So she pulled our college info from the college's website alumni section. But she didn't look far enough because she should have looked at the fraternity lists on the college website where she would have found a man whose last name is phonetically similar to mine and who shares the same first name. He is also nearly her age and I am five years older. He was a fraternity brother, had been in the Navy and used the nickname I was accused of using.

Now, I am still under suspician because I have yet, if ever, to take a DNA test to exclude me. However, why should I incur the costs of the woman's and Child Support's slipshod investigational skills? The woman is not on public assistance and I have sent her a letter RRR looking for restitution for my expenses, figuring to do it nicely, but she has thumbed her nose at that. I also feel that Child Support is at fault here. Do I have any recourse or give it up? Thanks.
