I am a American citizen currently living in France where I did my studies. I am looking for a job in the United States (California especially), and have bien refused some jobs because I am not currently living on the territory.
I specify again that I am a American citizen legally allowed to work in the US without the need of a visa.

Is it legal to be refused a job because of where you live ? I would like to know if it is considered a discimination

Yes it is discrimination

It is legal discrimination

There are not very many illegal types of illegal discrimination. They are race, color, religion, national origin, or sex at the federal level while a few states toss in a couple others such as weight or sexual orientation. Those are limited to discrimination in those states only.

Even if you were in the US, it would be legal to refuse you a job in, say, Kansas if you were living in Idaho.
