What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Pennsylvania
Upon leaving the parking lot of a new store's Grand Opening I was cited for turning left at a stop sign where a traffic control device was posted stating ALL TRAFFIC MUST TURN RIGHT. I saw the police officer tucked away in the corner of the adjacent parking lot parallel to where I was exiting and presumed he was running radar. Since I was not speeding, and at the time didn't realize I was breaking any laws - I came to a complete stop, signaled and then waited for passing traffic to move on to ensure it was clear and made the turn - unfortunately never noticing there was a sign hung directly below the stop sign stating the turn was not allowed. I did have my signal on, so I am sure it was apparent to the officer of my intended direction - because he was right there after me with his lights on while I waited at the next light. I did make the turn - but I had never been to that area/parking lot/intersection before because the store was brand new and upon my return to the scene realized that the road had been freshly repaved I took pictures and went back to evaluate HOW I could have missed it at the intersection - so there was no paint, barriers or indications or markings on the roadway/elsewhere that such a turn would not have been permitted. My daughter was in the vehicle at the time and she did not see/notice the sign either. I have never had any kind of citation before not for speeding or otherwise and want to know if it is possible or likely to argue it in a way to respectfully get this removed/reduced and if yes, how to go about a resolution without it going on my driving record. I have reviewed the Law PA Title 75 - but won't even presume to know how to accurately interpret the law. Please and Thank you. http//www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/legis/LI/consCheck.cfm? txtTypeHTMttl75div0chpt31sctn11subsctn0
