Is my "boss" a legal employee?

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? illinois

I am a maintenance worker for large apartment complex, owned by a construction company. They use an on site manager to oversee the duties of the maintenance crew, collect rent, etc. The actual manager of record has a full time job elsewhere, so the owner of the company uses the husband of the stated manager of record to do her daily duties previously stated. I am questioning the legality of the owner of the company to use an UNPAID, not an actual employee of the company just because he is the husband of said manager, to be in a word, the "boss" of others who are actual employees of the company. Again, my question is does the owner of the company have the legal right to use an unpaid person to do such duties? thank you

The owner can use whomever he wants to manage or oversee the workplace, and frankly whether or not the person gets paid is none of your business.

It is also legal for that person to agree to no compensation or some other arrangement without it being anybody else's business.

its plenty of my XX business, because this unpaid XX continues to mix politics and religion in the workplace and wants me fired because i refuse to listen to his preaching. Not to mention the fact that he fails to recognize my strong work effort while the lazy bums are skating by because they XXX. I also failed to mention that he and the owner have this little relationship because he is on disability, otherwise the title of manger would be in his name, the power hungry XXloving republican piece of XX.
and PS your opinion means nothing, he and his XX buddy are gonna fry

Then go to HR and file a complaint of religious harassment. But no, his employment arrangement is none of your business, period.
