What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California
I'd there a used car lemon law it something?
My son in law bought a used car (still paying) with an extended warranty from a crappy used car dealership about 2 years ago. It has had nothing but trouble ever since. Everytime they fix one thing, something else breaks down shortly after. Now the engine blew. When he called, he was told the extended warranty expired last month. Is there anything he can do? They are a young family struggling so they don't have money to rebuild the engine and may have to send the car back without finishing making the payments.
Also, if they do send it back, who dies he send it to? The car dealership it the loan company (loan company is in another state)
.
Thank you

There is no "lemon law" that would cover this matter. A blown engine after two years of ownership on a used car likely wouldn't be covered even if there were such a law.

I'm curious about your use of the phrase "crappy used car dealership". Do you mean they they are a dealership that sells crappy used cars, or do you mean they are a crappy dealership that sells used cars? Either way, why would one buy a car from them?

Used cars are usually bought as is. He should have properly inspected it (or had someone else do it for him).

The warranty is independent from that, but as you said, it expired.
