What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Illinois
We adopted a child a few years ago. The Biological mom told us she was drugged/raped at a party and did not know who did this to her.. She recently has told us that she lied and she also gave us the biological dads name.. and admitted that she did not ever tell him about the baby. They both live in Iowa and The adoption was done in IL. There was a legal notice placed in the paper, but it was dome here in IL not in Iowa..
Does this now make our adoption fraudulent and what legally are we required to do?

Speak to the adoption attorney who assisted you with the adoption. If you did this on your own, then I would recommend that you consult with an adoption attorney now.

he told us that we did everything on our end legally, but he could not guarantee that if the biodad shows up a judge wont give him custody based on the fact that he was never told about him.. its confusing because I saw that IL has recently been passing and changing laws concerning adoption and a father's right to know and choose..

I'm not seeing anything relevant to your situation, though this is really just a skim of what has changed effective Jan 1 of this year:

Has your attorney explained how and why new laws may (or may NOT) change your situation (given that the adoption took place at least a few years ago)?

And has your attorney explained anything at all about the putative fathers registry?

Or are you sort of reading stuff, not understanding it and winging it? (not judgment - just trying to ascertain what's actually happening)
