I live in California. My wife and I are legally separated for six months and have filed for divorce. When we ran the diso master it was determined that my child support will be $1125.00 and my alimony to be $1125.00 totaling $2250.00 per month. The figure was based on the fact that my average salary is $6000.00 per month. Because my future ex claims that she is mentally unstable to work, she collects $1500.00 per month from Social Security. The kicker is that disabilty/Social Security is not considered income so on paper she is receiving zero income. She is currently living at our home with our daughter and her new boy friend. I have been living with a friend for the last six months paying him $300.00 per month. Unfortunatley, I now have 30 days to find a new place to live. The average rent in the San Francisco Bay area ranges from $1100.00 to $2000.00 per month for a studio / 1 bedroom apartment. My question is that because my rental situation will be changing and her new boy friend has moved in, do I have any chance on getting my support payments lowered? Will I benefit by getting an expensive apartment? What else can I do?

Sounds to me like with the money you have to pay out every month it would be worth paying a good attorney to help you in your case. You are definitely getting screwed. Her boyfriend living there won't work in your favor unfortunately. I don't think an expensive apt. will help either. You will only be locked into a lease that you may not end up being able to pay. Good luck!!
