What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Florida

I was hired into a company a friend owns, a closely-held small corporation. Have worked there for over a year with no issues about my work.

Yesterday, he sent a text to my house guest saying that if he doesn't leave in one week that I will get a one week notice (to terminate). He let me know the same. I have since changed his mind on the matter.

My job was dependent upon my house guest leaving . . . this doesn't sound legal.

What say you?

Barring any unmentioned contract. you are employed at will. That means as long as the reason for terminating you is not base in unlawful Discrimination, it's lawful to terminate you for
any reason he chooses.

My guess is it's employer-provided housing.
My house, my guest.

Boss and I were friends before me being hired. I talked about how I wanted my guest out of my house, as a friend.

He tells me now that my job was never in danger, and that he did that to motivate the guest to leave. Some friend, who would manipulate me like that.

Thank you for your listening and replying.
