55 yr old male drops dead at work--receive a call from secretary informing us so we can inform my son--She states what happened in detail--"went home for lunch-arrived back--spoke briefly to me-went in office--someone heard gurgling sound coming from his office--went in --was blue, gurgling, jerking--called 911--they arrived left for hosp.--" . They also added "I hope I did not over-step my bounds by calling, but if it were my son I would want him to know"--Had a live-in girlfriend--went home everyday for lunch--was pronounced at 2:15pm--by 3:30 girlfriend had all final arrangements made without consulting next of kin (son)--had 2 attorneys and judge at the house--burial for following day--Day of funeral-afterwards said to my son "you know your father was "Loaded" don't you"? Turns out unbeknownest to live-in he wasn't as "loaded" as she assumed he was--took a big hit in the market over last year--No autopsy done--had stringent physical every year--no previous signs/symptoms of illness--Death certificate reads--"apparent" myocardial infarction---due to "probably" years of coronary artery desease--I do know there is no jerking motion when having a heart attack---Have a very uneasy feeling after briefly meeting her at funeral and just sitting back and watching her actions--Should we be considering possible fowl play or are we over-reacting? The feeling of somethings not right keeps nawing at us for whatever reason and we just can't seem to shake it---I know this all sounds far-fetched but we just can't shake it--Opinions would really be appreciated---Thanks

Not exactly my area of expertise as I'm in the medical profession but, I would think that if you suspect foul play the next of kin could request that the body be exhumed and taken to the medical examiners office for forensics. Next of kin would bear the costs of exhumation. Pretty weird story. If all the facts are as stated, sounds a bit suspicious. Don't know all the legalities of the process or any claims girlfriend may have to the departed. Hope you receive an answer soon from one of the "professionals" in legal/criminal.
As far as symptoms go...during an MI the victim is usually diaphoretic, pale, cold and clammy and will complain of crushing chest pain, arm and/or jaw pain. Although there are cases where the only discomfort experienced prior to a devastating heart attack was back pain or indigestion. Therefore, in those cases, often times the individual would not think that there was anything potentially serious going on and wouldn't seek medical treatment. Depending on the site of injury to the myocardium and duration of attack prior to treatment the victim can usually call for help or resusitated if CPR is initiated on a timely basis. Often times the victim will have had angina (chest pains) or shortness of breath in the past which would be indicative of coronary artery disease. "Years of coronary artery disease" cannot be diagnosed without evidence as would be found in an angiogram of the coronary arteries. To state such, without proper evidence is irresponsible. There is a chance that he did suffer from sudden death heart attack. This is usually found to occur in otherwise healthy adults, men more so than women. Oftentimes, there is not a history of CAD and patients are usually not symptomatic. Frequently the victims of "sudden death" have just had a "clean bill of health" physical. In sudden death heart attacks the first sign of a heart attack is death itself. It is unusal to have someone die suddenly without a definative cause not be autopsied to determine "actual" cause of death. What is even more unusual is to have someone die one day and buried the next, unless there was a religious reason to do so.

RE: response from adreamgenie

Thanks so much for your input--I also thought one would have been able to call for help since chest pain would be severe--No religious reason to be buried so quickly--And I too wondered why no autopsy under such sudden circumstances--You medical description has been a great help--I figured if I called some dr.s office and asked them to describe what happens when someone is having an Myo.Inf. they'd think I was some kind of nut case--and yes, that is an acurate description of the events that unfolded-no joke-dead serious--again thank you for your input--gives me more food for thought

Re:adreamgenie forgot to mention--

One other interesting tidbit--girlfriend is part of trust along with my son that victim had set up 2 yrs. ago--Had the market not gone down the tubes this past year--it would have been a very substantial trust and had the victim changed his beneficiarys on his life insurance at the time the trust was drawn up it would have been an even more substantial trust--Fortunately for my son he is beneficiary of life ins. along with victims mother since the victim never changed life ins. beneficiary to be the trust.
