Is X unfit?

I have been married for three years. I have three children from a prior marriage. My hisband wants to adopt my children and we are afraid my x will not consent. He does not have hardly any contact with his youngest two children, but, the oldest child he has. In the past when the children were with him at his house he has done drugs and had parties in their presence...the children personally told me this. Well the last three months my 14 year old(which is the oldest) moved in with him and I have never signed custody over...she moved in with him due to her "getting herself in trouble here". He agreed she could stay with him out of state...well he called me and said he can't handle her and I told him to send her back to me. He does not pay support cause he is getting SSI. He told me if I never want him to see his kids, he don't care cause he is fed up. Since he has said this and done many bad things in the past....is this grounds for being an unfit parent? Will this help with my husband adopting my children? He also owes about 7 or 8 years back child support. He does not work at all...nor his spouse, they are on welfare. We have medical insurance and provide everything that is needed for them...my X has done nothing to help. Sorry this is long...I just need some advice. Thank u....Bradybunch

Since he owes so much in back support. you might try making him an offer.

Tell him if he signs the papers you will forgive all past due child support. And remind him he will not have to pay any in the future, due to the adoption.

This works a lot of the time. And it sounds like the children may be old enough to decide on their own ir so, What do they want? That will play a big part in this also.
