What is the name of your state? Ca.
Jetx is a little amateur legal dork or something. THE FACT IS that expungements DONT get you the good jobs. Just the ones JETX gets like McDonalds.
Heres the facts about it:

Q. After my record is expunged, can I answer "No" if I'm asked whether I have a criminal record?

A. Yes and NO: If you expunge the record of your case, you can legally answer "No" if you are asked whether you have a criminal record. There are 3 exceptions: 1) if you plan to become a peace officer or run for public office, 2) if you want to work for the California Lottery commission, or 3) if you want to apply for State license.

Gee, whats left? McDonalds or Home Depot? No thanks.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Will expunging my record help me find a better job?

A. Often times, yes. If the employer doesn't run a background check, (That's the clincher, IF THEY DON'T RUN A CHECK!) LOL then they will never find out about the conviction because you can legally not disclose you prior criminal record. Even if an employer does a background check, because the record was expunged, the employer will know that you successfully completed all the terms of your sentence and are now ready to make a "fresh start".

(Like that will matter..) I can see them now at any good job.. "Hmmmm, it says he has a Felony reduced to Misdemeanor..?. and it was expunged.... NEXT applicant please!!!!"

Seems like YOU are the "amateur legal dork", not JETX....

You are clearly a member of Mensa, and know everything. I guess the rest of us can just log off and go back to playing solitaire at our computers.

I don't know what YOUR claim to fame is, but if I had to choose between information given by you or information given by Jetx as being accurate...let's see...which would I choose? Hmmm....tough choice....still thinking it over.....yes. It would definitely be Jetx. I'd much rather take advice from an intelligent lawyer, then a clueless idiot. But that's just me.

This is the thread started by someone else that OP here
https://forum.freeadvice.com/showthread.php?t=260151
In that thread, Jetx appropriately noted that OP was in a diversion program and deferred adjudication, his response was specific to that OP's question, not every possible situation. That is the nature of legal advice, to be a specific to the question as possible and why we need an accurate account of the facts.

As in court, a person must be responsive to the question and answer truthfully. A person in California can be fired for no reason at all. In California a person can be fired for lying on an application. Does that answer the questions that were not asked to your satisfaction?

Since in CA most employers do not have access to your state criminal offender record, he'll never know anyway! Any record they DO get might be via public access at the court. And even if those have been expunged, the old records on file with many of these on-line background companies will still exist.

An expunged record won't get you a good job ... first, you have to show that you are worth hiring!

most applications ask if you have ever been convicted of a felony.

depending on the job, some ask if you have ever been arrested, excluding traffic arrests.

when applying to the Bar, all attorneys are asked to explain all arrests, convictions, and what changes have been in your life to avoid those situations that led to the criminal charges.
