I took my engagement ring into a jeweler to talk about options for having a wedding ring to fit with it and options to adding stones to the band I currently have. They had a set that matched mine and suggested changing the "head section" and attaching it to the band set they already had. They also recommended cutting a section out of my ring head so the wedding band would slot in. This sounded like a great idea. They sent it off to be done and 5 days later I received my ring back with the new band but they lifted the main stone completely out of the halo. I was instantly upset. This was not discussed nor agreed upon. They said they had to do this for the band to slot in because my the stone was so large and deep. I was devastated. They said they would fix it but I was flying out of the country the next afternoon. I currently live in London and this is where my parents live in Florida. ( I am American but currently live in the UK). They got a different jeweler to put the stone back in it's original place. A few weeks later 3 stones fall out of the halo. I contact them and send them the ring for repair. I receive it back and 2 days later 2 stones fall out again! I contacted them again and they tried to say that they were not responsible for those stones because I did not buy the head from them. I expressed that they were the ones that have compromised the integrity of the ring when the jeweler raised the stone without my consent. They said they would give me $100 dollars towards the repair so I could get it fixed here in London. I have taken my ring to three different jewllers who have give me quotes of a minimum of $2400 dollars! They said that the ring head has to be remade otherwise this will keep happening. They have also told me that the repairs to the shoulders are unsuitable as used yellow gold instead of rose gold and burnt away a portion of the rose gold compromising the structure.They said that this must have happened when they fitted the new band and raised the stone. They said that just looking at the head and how deep the stone is they should have know that this never would have worked.
I have gone back to them and discussed this with them even stating that the note that came back to me when they replaced the stones said to replace the yellow gold with rose gold. So they already knew the wrong type of gold was used! They had my original rose gold band and the rose gold claw from my original band and the one I purchased from them that they could have used! They are still insisting that they are not responsible! To remake the head is more than I actually paid for the ring!
What can I do?
