What is the name of your state? ARIZONA,

hello my wife had an account with a credit union, it was a joint account with her MOTHER like 2 years ago and it was not used by my wife in 3 years, her mother lives now out of state , check systems flagged my wife when she went to apply at MY(her husband) credit union saying there was an outstanding Check written by HER MOTHER hmmmph. My wife and i have goals to refinance this new car we bought because the current financer is too high.
Does my wife have to pay this outstanding check that her mother wrote?? What can she do to show that is was not her?

please respond at your earliest convienance. thank you :)

If the account was joint then both parties are equally responsible to make sure that there are sufficient funds in the account to cover any outstanding checks, debits, or purchases. Your wife can (and probably should) pay the amount, but that won't get her off of Chex. She'll still be on their system for 5 years from the date she was reported.
