Joint Legal Question re: vacation out of state

Myself as well as my sons father both reside in California. I have full physical custody, and we both have joint legal (common in CA). Anyhow, do I have to ask permission to take our son out of the state on vacation if it is not specified in our court orders that I must do so. He has said because we have joint legal custody, I must ask to take him out of the state, is this true?

No, only if you wish to take the child to a foreign country would you need his consent.
