What is the name of your state? Minnesota
How do I check to see if the plaintiff in a judgement is the owner of the debt. Original cc company charged off debt previously. Thanks.

I don't know of anyplace to "check".

However, it is my understanding that only the owner has standing to bring suit. They can use a law firm or collection agency but the suit would be filed in the name of the owner. I guess it is possible that the summons would indicate if the owner was someone other than the party who filed the suit.

The odds are very high that the plantiff and owner are the same.

You could always call the plantiff and ask if they are the owner. Lots of people would tell you not to do that and not to believe anything they say. Personally, I can't see a reason why they would lie about something like this.

You could also conduct discovery to determine the identity of the owner (assuming you are being sued).

Just curious why you are asking. Do you see something unusual here?

Maybe I don't understand the question.

The reason I asked was it was in a reply to my earlier thread labeled "Judgement Summons - now what" to find out who the owner of the debt is.
