What is the name of your state? MS

I will be going to court soon to change jurisdiction and hopefully custody. My question is will there be one hearing to change jurisdiction then another for the custody and child support or will it be all together on the same day.

Also, my ex's last name is Perry and mine is Marks. She had been wanting a divorce since before my son was born. When he was born she didn't want him to have my last name (she didn't change her name either). So now my son has the last name Perry-Marks because thats how she wanted it (I had no say). When my lawyer learned of this he said the judge won't have that. Does anyone understand this. If the judge does change his name will it be to mine or hers?

I don't think anyone knows about MIssissippi laws, or they would have answered by now.... All we could do would be to look up state statues on the net and try to find the answer to your first question, but you could do the same thing. We know as much as you do on that one apparently. :)

As for the second question about the name change.... no one can tell you what the judge will order, or how he will order it. Only he knows the answer to that. And, if your attorney is in front of that judge a lot, he may just know his particular quirks. Since he told you what he did, maybe he's got experience with the judge and has seen him do this exact thing before.

It's not that no one wants to answer, it's that no one KNOWS the answers....
