What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? North Carolina
My ex fiance left a used car, the unsigned title and keys at our house when we separated along with several thousands of debt, anyway he was going to put the car in my name until now and I was wondering if I have everything to sign the title can I legally do that without informing him and not being the one who actually handed the money to the seller to purchase? Do I have to give him so many days or a warning? The only signature on the title is the sellers. Desperate and hate being sneaky like him but I have to survive!! Thanks

It's not your car and you know it.

You are just asking for serious problems to forge that title and giving him free hammer to beat upon you later on. It needs his signature or some limited POA to you to execute same IF such is allowed by your states MV code --but the simple safe answer is he needs to sign it.

Leaving you title and keys may be highly symbolic --at best ---

The car appears to be a conditional gift based on a promise that was not fulfilled.

It sounds as if the car belongs to your fiancé absent any clear agreement to the contrary.
