What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? West Virginia,
I've had total custody of my biological nephew since the day he was born. First I must say I am the only mom he's ever known. Both biological parents want to relinquish rights to me and with him getting older the sooner the better. What are the steps needed to do this? Everything is very cut and dry on the private end of all this since the biological parents have always wanted to turn over their rights to me and I was already granted total custody in VA which is where we originally resided.

So you have been lying to this child? Get an attorney to help you with the adoption.

Where do you get that OP has been lying? "...I am the only mom he's ever known" could just as easily mean that she's the only female person that's ever provided care for him since he was born. And we also don't know how old this child is - if he is still an infant then whatever OP has told him is negligible, because he wouldn't have understood it anyway. (And that "with him getting older the sooner the better" comment seems to me like OP is wanting to get this done before he gets old enough to have things explained to him - so they can be explained in full.)

I don't see anything in OP's post that warrants her being bashed like this.

Ditto, ee.

However, OP, it is always a good idea to have an attorney for an adoption - it really is not a DIY project.
