What is the name of your state? CA

I received a phonecall today from my landlord (I live in a house) telling me that I need to be out by July 1st. I have been living month to month for about the past year and he just sprung this on me today. Doesn't he have to give me a 30 day notice in writing? Please help, I want to call him back but I want to be sure. There's no way I could find another place in 6 days.
Thanks

Your state govt web page links clearly say how much notice is to be given and defines proper notice. Oral notice on phone is not proper notice. SO since you know your LL wants you to leave you can take advantage of this and send your LL written notice that meets your states laws and tell them since the notice they gave you was not proper notice your sparing them the trouble and giving your notice that you will vacate on ( date) according to what your state statutes are . Send your notice via certified mail.

Also, the amount of notice required varies with the length of time you have lived in the unit. In CA, it varies from 30 to 60 days. You need to read your state's law.
