My cat was recently killed by a car (2 weeks ago). And I've been interested in getting another cat because my other cat I still have is very sad and we just need to have another cat to, not replace him, but to fill a void.
Also before I moved here I lived around the corner about a half a block down the street and have been feeding stray cats in the neighborhood for about 7 years now. One of the MAIN reasons I wanted this apartment is so that not only would my cat that just got killed by a car still be in familiar surroundings but so that I can continue to care for the strays.
Today, my landlord was here and told me that I CAN NOT feed ANY cat's outside on the property. And also that I have one cat now and that's the way it is going to stay(my lease says two).
My whole world has been shattered enough just losing my best friend and companion, now to be told this it's almost too much to bear.
I love it here and I love the apartment. But now this changes everything. Does she my landlord that is) have the right to tell me this?
I pay my rent everymonth and keep not only the inside, but the outside of the property clean and neat. I'm 42 years old and divorced and my cat's are a BIG part of my life. Now what, I'm supposed to let these little baby's stand in front of my door crying for food and not feed them. There is a huge field by where my old apartment was but the neighbors told me if they catch me feeding cats there they will kill and/or poison them. Please advise me what to do and what my rights are as a tenant?
