My lawyer is causing me a lot of trouble. I was in a custody battle with my ex and I ended up getting pri**** custody. Lots of stuff has gone on and a few new orders that are to be added on to the old one have been made. The last order was signed on the 17th of Nov., and my lawyer STILL has not sent it to me. I've sent him a letter just yesterday asking that anything concerning my case needs to be sent to me ASAP. My ex is trying to hold me in contempt for orders I never even recieved! Is there anything I can do about my lawyer? I plan to hire a new one as soon as I get the money up for a retainer which probably won't be until Feb. Do lawyers have to send order and papers by a certain number of days?

Go to the lawyer's office and ask for YOUR file (it does not belong to the lawyer).

Camp out if necessary.

Extinguish all fires before retiring and properly dispose of waste.

I don't have a court date yet for the contempt charges that my ex is trying to pull, so if I fire my lawyer, how long will they give me to get a new one?

Or, I might have a court date and just don't know about it yet.....If I fire my lawyer will they push the court date back so that I can hire a new lawyer?

A: The court may possibly grant a continuance; the judge, of course, is the person with the final answer on that one.

Thanks so much for you help, one last question.

My lawyer is fully paid up to date, so this isn't about me not paying him.

Is there anything I can do to him legally to make him pay for all the trouble he is causing me? He has also called me and lied to me about my ex, telling me my ex was going to do something (saying the clerk told him), then later he said that I'm the one that told him about the action my ex was supposedly going to take but never did. I was even charged for this phone call he made to me tellling me these lies.
