i hired an attorney to represent me at my closing on real estate purchase. i signed a letter, mailed it back to him. i spoke with him a week prior to the closing he said i will take care of everything, just show up at the closing and sign the papers, and bring a check. i went to the closing he was sitting at the table. signed the papers, and left. he only said hello. i never got a bill from him. i later notice he signed the deed from the seller to me. he never informed me he would not represent me. is this malpratice?
problems after purchase, he says he never represented me. and had nothing to do with the closing.
i live in maine.

I wouldn't say that this is 'malpractice', but from your post it sounds like an 'ethics' problem.

I would suggest that you write the attorney a letter (Certified RRR), detail your concerns and what the it looked like to you. Ask some very specific questions, like "Were you representing me or the seller?", "At what time was I advised that you are NOT representing me", "Why did you send me a bill if I was not your client?", etc.

Also, include that you expect an answer within a reasonable time (5 days from receipt?).

If you do not get a response, or one that you don't like, you might consider filing a complaint with your states Bar Association or attorney grievance division.
