Update to October 16 message.
I was hired as a computer programmer analyst at a financial services company. Since I had not worked for several years I accepted a lower salary than the salary specified for programmer analyst. After a year the company lowered my job title to programmer II without notifying me. When I complained, Human Resourses said they lowered my job title to match my salary. I continued to complain and then they laid me off. There was no performance problem; I had a very good performance review. My boss told me several times he was very happy with my work, that I was very hard worker. I only found out about the change when I saw my performance review. My boss, who was not the man who hired me, was surprised when I told him I had been hired as a programmer analyst. I showed him my job offering letter and told him I wanted my original title back. He said he would talk to his boss. Two days later I was laid off. A co-worker told me he saw my boss leave that meeting very upset. I asked the man who hired me about this, he said I was hired provisionally; I said my offering letter didn't say I was a provisional hire and he just walked away. He was also the man who signed the paperwork to lay me off. Do I have any legal recourse? I am an Asian female, 59 years old.
