California; (2 Interrelated Questions)History:I have been in & out of court since Aug.'97. My divorce was final 12/30/98. I had joint phys custody of my 2 children (ex lived in CO 4/98-2/00). My ex moved back to CA and now lives w/his mother in Woodland Hills, CA. No change in custody was ordered unless he moves back into the Antelope Valley, but the Judge disregards his own rulings. My ex is now (over 74 miles away and now has our 15-yr. old daughter living w/ him). This was done while I still had a good Lawyer. Things seem to be working out, but my ex still wants both children w/him. We go to court (again) on 6/14/01 to further determine child custody, etc. I do not have a lawyer any more. The Judge strongly advises that I either hire a Lawyer or at least seek Legal Council. (1)What should I do?????
I cannot, afford another Lawyer (I have paid over $6K in Lawyer fees to date & still owe my past Lawyer $2K bal. due). Unless some legal case is thrown at me that I don't know the outcome (like Wade vs Roe), I feel I can do just fine representing my side. I have done OK in court representing my-interests this past year, but I am worried if the Judge is telling me to get a Lawyer.(2)Are the Lawyers & the Judge in cohoots w/ one-and-another?Is this a ploy to force me to pay my previous Lawyer ASAP or what?????
Thank you.

My response:

Here's what the judge is telling you:

"I'm tired of you coming into my court completely unprepared. You don't know the Rules of Court, or the Rules of Evidence, or the law in general. I'm the judge. I can't represent you. Therefore, either get an attorney or go to law school. Until you do one or the other, I don't want to see you back in my courtroom."
