My girlfriends 22 yr old daughter cannot provide for her 3 yr old son while she is getting financially on her feet. To provide for the childs welfare can we(her mother) apply for LEGAL GUARDIANSHIP OR work with the daughter through court for a TEMPORARY JOINT CUSTODY order so that we could put him on our medical insurance, place him into good daycare, etc... Which route (custody or guardian) will allow these legal needs. We are in Chesapeake, Virginia. We do not seek child support, any financial obligations would strickly be what she could provide at the time.
