I was signed to an independent label and signed in Febraury of 2008. After a dispute, was put of the "label home" in New Jersey. Then asked to move back weeks later. When I refused but agreed to record in Maryland, which is where I moved back to, they threatened to freeze my contract. And no, recording in New Jersey was not explicitly required. So I contacted a lawyer, and the lawyer wrote to them and explained that the incident that occurred in June of 2008, that forced the move, was a material breach and that I was not bound to the contract. I was instructed to not contact them any longer, I did exacly that. Months passed by and I reached out to the same lawyer, who informed that he could not longer represent me. So I found another lawyer in New Jersey and he reached out on my behalf and asked Royalty Family Music Group to provide a signed copy of my contract within a week. They did no do so. So my question is am I still legally bound to them even if the contract duration has expired, it was a breach, and never recieved a signed copy? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
