Legally demand payment

California While being employed as a care giver I extended over $10,000.00
in order to run the household. I was promised I would be reinbursed. My patient is a very wealthy person. I have saved and documented every receipt for every cent. Recently her children have committed her to a convalesent home. I still reside in her home (valued at over 1 million. I am in their way. They want me out of here yet they refuse to acknowledge this dept.
In the meantime they have harrassed me constantly. cut my phone lines, called the police numerous times and in short made my life a living hell. I have been living here for over two years, and quite honestly, Without that money I will be homeless. I concidered that money my savings, to be used when it was time to move on. I don"t know which way to turn.

You need to consult with an attorney. (a) I seriously doubt you have any legal right to continue to reside in the home and it's quite possible a sheriff will show up with an eviction notice shortly, and (b) it sounds like you're going to have to sue (or at least threaten to) to obtain repayment of the $10,000 you are owed. I hope you have documentation of the loan(s) or you very likely are going to have a very difficult time collecting what you are due.

If there is a Legal Aid Society in your area, they may be able to help you on a pro bono or sliding fee basis.
