What is the name of your state? Tennessee
A friend of mine who works as a local rep in Nashville for a company based in Ohio was recently asked if they had a "criminal liability bond". The response was "I don't know what that is".
My question is,"What is a criminal liability bond, and why would a supervisor ask if someone has one?"
Thanks,
Saminalham
I just can't figure out why this question was posed to my friend. Some employers ask if you have "the ability to be bonded". I don't quite know what that means, either, other than the individual has never "skipped bond".
I figured someone might know this off the top of their legal head. The person in question has no prior criminal activity or convictions, so I don't know why the employer asked that question.
Just wondering.
I can't be exactly sure, and neither can you since it was noit posed directly to you, and things can get jumbled, and you can't get any more clarification.
Allow me to ask- does your friend have criminal record?
I ask this becasue there are programs that allow ex-cons to purchase a bond to protect their future employers. It is state sponsored way to help overcome the problem of getting a job with the stigma of a criminal record. It protects the employer.
Even if you friend has no record, it could just be a standard question on some interview check off sheet.
Now, about the issue of being able to be bonded. You are confusing this with a bail bond, and it is not related, other than to say that if you have skipped bail or have a criminal conviction you are not likely to get one...
A bond in this case protects the employer and the clients. For example a maid at the home of a wealthy family would usually be bonded. The purpose- if the maid one day decided to walk off with 250k in jewelery... the families loss would be protected. Of course the services of a bonded worker come with a premium, to cover the cost of the bond...
Obviously there could be hundreds of other scenarios where a bond could come into play...
usually situations involving being in customers homes, or dealing with high value items or other situations where an employees actions could create a large loss.
So I can't say exactly what your friend was asked, but I hope this gives you more information
