I bought my car 4 months ago. I just got my registration in the mail a couple weeks ago, and found out the dealership did not order our license plates as they said they would. The license plate number is on our registration of course. I wanted to order personalized plates, and want to know, can I get in any trouble - ticketed, fined, etc. - if I only have the dealership plates on our car, and wait the 12 weeks it takes for the personal plates to be ready?

Have the dealership assign you new temporary plates.

and ask for a continuance for proof.

Make sure you save all the correspondences between you and the dealer requesting the correct plates as they never sent you the ones they promised.
