What is the name of your state? WA
An organization to which I belong has published a guide to help us organize our personal and financial info into one place for our survivors. In the info for real estate I own it asks "Provide location of lien if mortgage is paid off". I don't understand the question. What lien? Can someone here help out?

The recorded mortgage is a lien upon the home. When the mortgage is paid in full the lender should issue and record a lien release. The homeowner should be mailed a copy. If you have paid off your mortgage and haven't received a lien release check to see if one has been recorded. If not, then you will have to bug the mortgage company until it gets done.

What sort of "organization"?

I would suggest that, rather than asking anonymous strangers who have virtually no context, the best way to ascertain the meaning of the statement made in this "guide" published by this "organization" would be to ask the individual who prepared the "guide" or some other person affiliated with the "organization."
