Illinois (and Florida)

Had a question on if anyone knew where I could find out what the "standards" are for my state (Illinois) and the biological father's state (Florida, i think at the moment) for abandonment from my stepson.

My wife and I have had talks about adopting my stepson, and we were going to talk to him about it here soon. We wanted to talk to his father, but we cannot find him. Last known address from online jail website was in florida, but his mother recently told us he was somewhere in PA? We (my wife, my stepson, and myself) have not heard from him since June of 2010 when we were in Florida visiting family.

There is a Child Support case through the state of Florida, but there hasnt been any kind of payment since early 2010. (Thats really here nor there, it doesnt change anything) Only contact we have had (if you want to call it contact) is by searching his name on Florida court records and watching him ending up in jail multiple times. We updated the state of florida once to let them know he was in jail (about a year ago), as they dont seem to do much searching for him...

Anyhow, I tried to search the net for a while to look up info to see if in fact the court would see that he has abandoned his child due to no contact at all? Im not really sure how we would get in touch with him to file any paperwork for the parental rights being given up~ But id like to take one thing at a time.
If you guys could help with any links towards Florida Laws for abandonment that would be great.

And again, Thanks alot for all your help on this site. You guys are super awesome and I hope all of you have had a great holiday!

For starters, I don't care about your state or the father's state. What we need to know are:
1. Where is the child living and how long has she been there?
2. Is there an existing court order for custody and what state is it from?

In addition to these questions, is there a GOOD reason that the parent to this child isn't posting for herself? Is she mentally addled in some way?

No- She is at work at the moment. Please do not hijack my thread. If you have no comment at all towards my original question, please refrain from posting. BTW, I am a parent... Thanks

FA is open 24/7. She can ask her own legal questions. We definitely prefer to deal only with the parent.

Nobody is hijacking.

And you are not this child's parent.

Might be, someday. But not now.

Why? All I was asking for is a link that would necessitate what Florida warrants as "abandonment"... What would that matter if she asked or I.. I was just looking to see what states consider abandonment. Between Florida and Illinois.

HAHA... I think I found it already...

- 2011 Florida Statutes - The Florida Senate

Ill see if I can look through it to find anything. And in the meantime, Ill let the Mrs. know that you guys want to talk to her if there are any more questions.:D

Why are you looking at Florida law if the child has lived in IL for the last EIGHT years? Florida is NOT the state where the adoption or termination of parental rights would take place.

So great. You found information that is not relevant.
