I was diagnosed with metastisized breast cancer in Sept. of 2004 I was off work 1 year and went back and worked all this year I work for school system. I have been layed off *(not because of this but because they closed a school) My question is can they legally stop my insurance as I am still being treated for the cancer with regular check ups every 3 months including blood work. Thank you. Cathy

Yes, they can. They have no legal obligation to continue your health insurance after your employment ends, regardless of whether you are undergoing continuing treatment or not.

However, unless you were terminated for gross misconduct (which does not appear to be the case) they MUST offer you the right to continue the insurance at your own expense, assuming that the policy is still in effect for any employees who are still employed.
