What is the name of your state? Michigan

10 years ago I co-signed on a mobile home mortgage for my elderly mother. Big mistake, but hindsight is 20/20. She fell on the steps of the home and died a year ago last April. I thought I had someone to purchase the home but their financing fell through. The mobile home park then made an offer on the home, but the mortgage company said the offer was too low, and they repossessed the home in January. The park knows it was repossessed. I have never received a bill from the mortgage company since then. They show it on my credit report as repossessed, but without an outstanding amount (which I don't understand, as there was a balance)

I live about 1400 miles from Michigan now and just last week received a letter from the park, telling me I was responsible for $3500 in back lot rent. This amounts to about 10 months of rent. Since I have not actually owned the home for 6 months now, am I liable for this? I certainly don't have the money. I don't understand why I haven't heard from them before. Is the steps outside a mobile home considered private or park property?

Thanks for any advice!

If this is not the right place to find an answer for this, could someone recommend another place I could try?

Thank you.
