What is the name of your state? Alabama

Is there a website that talks about Alabama lunch breaks? The place where I work is hourly and we are open 24 x 7/ 365 days a year. We have two groups who do the same work - one work 5 days a week/8 hours a day and the other works 4 days a week/10 hours a day. For years the 5 days/8 hours have always had to take 30 minute lunches. All of sudden, we were told we have to start taking 1 hour lunches - no exceptions. The other group - 4 days/10 hours are not required to take a lunch. They said the reason that 5 days/8 hours have to take a lunch is because of labor laws. What is the law on this? What is the name of your state?

Neither Federal nor Alabama law requires lunch breaks. (It is possible there may be an industry specific regulation.) However, it is up to the employer what hours you work and if they want you to take an hour lunch, then you take an hour lunch. It doesn't matter if the law requires it or not - you work when the employer says you work and you take a lunch break when and for how long the employer says you take a lunch break.

If you are asking whether or not it is legal to require the 5 days/8 hours group to take an hour lunch and not require it of the 4 days/10 hours group, the answer is yes, it is legal.
