Car accident-update-Greedy or right ballpark?

I wanted to thank you for taking the time... I appreciate you being impartial and honest, Lynx.. considering your job.
Also considering the feelings I am harboring for the insurance adjuster on my claim right now...
My claim for being rear-ended.. other drivers fault, in souther cal. incurred 6300.00 in medical bills... with other things like co-pays and lost wages its about 8000.00+ but at this time... I am just worried about medical. The adjuster offered 6000.00
My lawyer says we are being low-balled... has done some negotiating... can't get anywhere... has said we are going to file suit. He says that this usually gets them to buckle..
He is going to ask for 17,500... so my pocket gets about 5.000 after his cut and Medical paid.
May I ask for your time to answer the question.. Is that true about insurances buckling after suits are filed?
Am I being greedy?
I feel so slimey about all this... but truly I have been wrecked... to be punny.
And owe so many friends so much money, I really am going to just come out even... might be able to buy myself a cocktail to celebrate...
