What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Indiana
i ordered my son a book from amazon, fantasy, G rated, tracking confirms delivery to local jail, but he hasn't received. I was under understanding to misdirect us mail was federal offense..I do know in our county law officers generally break speeding laws without using red light and siren which is what transform them into emergency vehicles.. and they do what they wish..AM i against law enforcement officers, no, we all should be honored to have them, without them we would have chaos, but i am against them doing as they wish, laws are for evey one, those who carry badge, and those who do not..

And of course, you are NOT correct. Delivery to a jail is NOT 'protected'.

I do know in our county law officers generally break speeding laws without using red light and siren which is what transform them into emergency vehicles.. and they do what they wish.
And EXACTLY how is that relevant to your random drooling s in this post??

And what EXACTLY did the jail personnel say when you asked them??

Yeah, anyway....

You are completely incorrect. Prisoners simply do not have the same rights to privacy that people that are NOT imprisoned do.

Did you ask first if such presents were allowed?

I know the local county jail that has hosted by brother as a guest a number of times prohibits packages of any kind to be delivered to inmates. Packages that are received are placed with the prisoners other possessions then given to the prisoner upon release.

Those that choose to commit crimes are also choosing to lose specific rights and privileges when they are caught and convicted. The OP might also like to know that regular mail delivered to jail inmates is opened and checked for contraband and the jails keep track of those sending letters to prisoners. Those that arrive without a return address are usually thrown away and not delivered. The jails can do this because there are laws that say they can. So yes, they are following the law.

OP didn't specify whether the item oredred was a 'hardcover' book. Hard cover corners of books are considered potential weapons by correctional professionals. Your relative almost certainly would NOT have received the item. You might approach the officials politely to find out what, if any, books or printed material would be allowed.

Bibles provided to inmates must be softbound because of the restriction described above.
