I have a question about Maine`s state laws. I have a stepson that has been in and out of trouble with the courts in Oklahoma and in the Maine , New Hampshire areas . He has an expecting girlfriend in Maine and they have applied for public assistance from that state . He now has notified us that he has left his girlfriend because the state of Maine runs a background check on both parents and if they find any felony record that the state can take the child from them and place it for adoption. Is this true or is this just a lame excuse to run away from his responsibilities to this girl. I am just curious because I have never heard of anything like this before now. Any help would be apprieciated. Thank you . Paul Thomas . Oklahoma
