What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NY

I hired a lawyer to represent me in a claim against a hospital in which my husband died. Negligence against the Emergency Room. I also hired a lawyer to represent me in a workers comp case since he got injured on the job. Is it okay to have both a workers comp lawyer and a medical malpractice lawyer. I dont know if its a conflict of interest but I thought it better to hire a lawyer for what he specializes in.

The attorneys need to know about each other and what claims you are bringing in each arena.

Yoy can't have it both ways - for instance, you can't simultaneously recover from the hospital because you claim he died due to negligence and from the workers comp carrier because you claim he died from the work-related injury. That doesn't mean that you can't have viable claims in each matter - it just means that the claims need to be appropriate.

Ask your attorneys about "proximate cause" and how it relates to each claim.
