I was wondering if there is such a law that you have to be checked if you are pregnant before a OB in Illinios will administor a shot of Depo-Provera (birth control). My wife was two months pregnant when she was given the shot. I was wondering if this was to have any affect on my child, would this be a case of malpractice? My son is now 2 months, Healthy, and there are no signs, but what if????? 5 years from now you find out there is problems?? Thanks for any help.

I am a law school graduate. What I offer is mere information, not to be construed as forming an attorney client relationship.

In additon what I give you, I think you should contact the FDA to see what guidelines there are.

How To Get The Shot
Your clinician will take your medical history and give you a physical exam, including:

blood pressure check
weight
breast exam
pelvic exam
Pap test (to check for cancer of the cervix).
There may be other tests based on your family and medical history.

The Shot is given into your arm or buttock.

You will need a shot every 12 weeks for as long as you want to prevent pregnancy.

What if

We had a case like yours sometime ago the depo shot was given in the first trimester. The baby is legally blind now, I am not saying that this could happen to your child I am just saying it happened to this particular case. Just have your child go to his/her regular checkups and let the doctor know what happened so that he/she can check for possible side effects
