What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

Just wondering. If a mandatory meeting had been called for a Saturday. We were told 8-11 , And the meeting lasts 45 minutes longer than what was said? Can you leave? without repercutions? Meeting was stated in an E-mail to all employees.

Some people lived far away and had to leave due to family conflicts. One person just left before it ended. No reason given, just said the meeting was over

One kinda stormed out with attitude after waiting about 15 minutes past said time that it was said to be over.

The others who left because of "conflicts" are still here the others stayed and still have a job but lost 45 minutes of their weekend.

If the one that stormed out got called in for a reason why and pretty much told them it was a waste of their time, Could they be fired?

I would like just people like Pattyx, cbg or Beth to answer. others need not apply. THEY are the people in the know.

We did get paid for the 2 hrs and 45 minutes overtime, those that stayed. but what about the others that were allowed to stay and the one that left with attitude?

California question

sure. If they forced you, it would be illegal confinement.

without repercutions?
that's up to the employer.

Your employer can require an employee to stay for whatever time they want. If an employee is insubordinate, they can be fired.

and I am not applying. I am responding. If you don't want the info, ignore it.

seems like it should have been 3 hours and 45 minutes (8-11 is 3 hours plus the 45 minutes beyond the scheduled time)

Agree. If they tell you it's going to be two hours and when you get there it turns out to be four hours, then you stay four hours or you risk your job.

Of course, if you are there for four hours you have to be paid for four hours (assuming you are non-exempt) but you have no right under the law to leave with no repercussions.

No non exempt peeps here. Just wanted to check with you. He was a good employee but just did not "Get it"when it came to compliance and did not "get" that others openly said or later said.... they had to go/ I respect you and take that.

Thank you for your time.
