Marriage Proposal is it binding

I was given a proposal of marriage( I also have it in written form)At his urging and my haste, I took a financial loss with selling a home and business in calif. to move to Arizona. 8 months later i have spent all of the $$ that I came here with, helping him build his new house under the pretense of that "proposal" and thinking it was "ours". He has now asked me to leave. Do i have any legal recourse to be compensated for the $$ ($12000.00) that I have spent while with him.

Marriage proposals are not binding. If both of you have invested money in the house then you have a right to stay in the house. If he doesn't want you to stay tell him you will leave as soon as he compensates you for your investment. If he doesn't want to pay, don't leave.

. . . and if he doesn't pay you, your legal recourse is to sue him for "Partition". Then the court will either force him to pay you, or to sell the house and divide the proceeds, if any.

I'm sure you've already learned, but for the sake of our other readers, NEVER loan, give, spend or otherwise part with your money UNLESS you've got a ring on your finger and a marriage certificate. Otherwise, you're in for a world of hurt.
