did you file a petition for divorce?

This is a question for my sister, just for clarification.

Her and her soon to be ex husband met with an attorney and the original petition was filed in the courts on 2/13. She was just curious when the sixty days starts? Does it start when it is filed? Or when the judge signs on it?

The judgment in the lawsuit is final sixty days after it is entered (meaning, signed by the judge).

Geez - what the heck?! Is this another state law? The judge signs, you get the pretty gold seal on your decree, it's filed and it's STILL not final for 60 days? Why is that?
