OKLAHOMA

In the Divorce Decree, it states 50% responsibility for medical bills. The ex wants it paid directly to her, but we understood it to be paid via the Child Support Enforcement Division since anything outside of support is a gift and not trackable.

So, do we write a check to CES or to the Ex?

In OK, Base Child Support should be paid through CSE.

Other items that vary and may require a receipt for proof of actual expense (medical co-pays, prescriptions, childcare expense) can be paid directly to the ex or to the provider.

It is usually a good idea to keep all receipts and proof of your reimbursement.

I'm not in Oklahoma, but my decree has the same stipulation. HOW we work it depends on a couple of things. For an urgent care visit that my oldest had, my ex will supply me with a copy of the bill, and I'll pay the care center my portion directly. For things like Co-Pays for regular visits to the doctor, we keep a log of what we've paid, the prescriptions that we've filled, etc and catch up with each other every couple of months. Makes it a lot easier than worrying about nickle and diming each other.

If the ex has already paid the bill, I'd reimburse her, and insist on a receipt stating that you'd paid your half.

Generally, child support payments are to be paid thru the state (when set up this way), and reimbursement of any medical bills are to be paid directly to the other parent, upon request and receipt for such. Almost every order for medical is set up this way. If you send reimbursment for such bills thru the state, this will be considered "extra gift money" and you will not be credited for paying these expenses.
