My husband had a brain shunt put in in August 1999 because of fluid on the brain (Hydrocephlus) and he was having trouble with balance and walking. After the shunt was put in he was walking great. April 2000 he had a heart attack and had quadruple bypass surgery. After this surgery his heart was fine but again he was having trouble with balance and walking. In October 2000 the brain surgeon put in new tubing from the shunt in his head to his stomach because the fluid was not draining through the tubing. After this surgery the brain surgeon told me there were stitches from the heart surgery blocking the tubing or else it was a cyst that was blocking it. He would not give me a specific answer to the blockage. My husband still cannot walk without a walker or a cane and goes to physical therapy three times a week. Is this Malpractice???

I am a law school graduate. What I offer is mere information, not to be construed as forming an attorney client relationship.

My ultimate respect to you both for keeping strong.

As to medical malpractice, it is not that cut and dry. What are the likely side effects of all of these procedures? Is it more likely to happen when all of these things occur? Did the doctor inform you before each event/procedure of side effects, probabilties? Do these things normally occur or do they only occur with medical negligence?

This is something only a medical malpractice attorney can help you with. You need to look for one either via http://www.attorneypages.com or call your state bar association and ask for lawyer referral.

You might want to start doing some preliminary internet searches that discuss such procedures at length.
