medical recovery of expenses in court

What is the name of your state? Michigan

This is a question for general information. I have heard 2 answers. If you sue someone for medical costs to an accident, that is their fault, no dispute. Are they responsible for medical costs? My actual question, is does it matter if you are reimbursed from the insurance company or not? I have heard that if you had insurance, only non-reimbursed items are recoverable. Then I have heard that all of it would be, since you have paid the premiums. Like I said, this is a general legal question. I have not been involved in any accident whatsoever. I am looking for a stricly legal answer, not a moral one. Thanks
