What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CA

We have an agreement to provide services to company A that has just merged with company B. Our agreement with company A does not allow for an assignment of the agreement.

Is the agreement assigned by virtue of law, if so, which law? If not, what happens to our agreement?
