What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Wisconsin
Okay so I don't know if this is the correct forum but I could not figure out where exactly this should go.
My daughter is 17 and works at Panera Bread. She works around 35 hours a week.
There have been issues in the past with poor management and the way they treat employees.
The general manager of the store has had multiple complaints against him, which the district manager knows about and continued to let him be in charge of the store.
This past weekend my daughter was scheduled to work 5am-230pm. Which is 9 and a half hours, right? Well this general manager of the store was in charge of the shift and despite several requests from my daughter, refused to let her get a break. She ended up working closer to 10 hours because they got busy towards the end of her shift and told her she couldn't leave. She ended up standing up for herself and demanding she leave (basically walking out) and requesting corporate's number because they had refused to let her take a break.
Multiple people have told me I should file a lawsuit against Panera for this- as she is a minor.
I'm just curious for opinions on if this is worth pursuing.
Thanks

Since she is 17, she is not restricted in how many hours she can work, but she is entitled by law to a 30 minute meal break if she works over 6 hours. However, the correct response is not to file a lawsuit; it is to file a complaint with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.
