What is the name of your state? Texas
I was unjustly charged by the State of Texas of a Misdemeanor Class C crime in Jan 24, 2005. Subsequently, I spent 10 days in a county jail and served cost/time/fine concurrently with no probation and no supervision of any kind. The case is closed. This is my first and only conviction by the law -in my 41 years of living on this planet. I am very worry that this criminal record will be adversely affect my ability to get a job. It is more so when I plan to look for a teaching job in a college (and I am a Ph.D.) My wife was an immigrant who didn't speak VERY little English and who just lived in the U.S. only for 5 month at the time of the arrest. I didn't hit her, but she claimed that I did (through an interpreter over the phone). She (along with my 18-month old son) are now in a women's shelter somewhere in Dallas (even though I live in Houston) with no contact. She didn't call or e-mail her relatives in the U.S. or overseas. Once, she told her cousin that my son is VERY sick. I have no restraint orders of any kinds from the judge nor receiving one yet in the USPS mail. My questions are:

(1) My wife is staying in a 90-day resident shelter. Can she choose to return home -if she wants too? (and I am a harmless guy who loves her very much)
(2) Is that possible that the shelter moved her from Houston to Dallas (a distance of 242 miles)?
(3) Could she be prohibitted from contacting me or anyone in the outside world when staying in the shelter?
(4) She is collecting public benefits on behalf of our American son. Do you think that the Immigration office will know that when we come for the interview for her green card.
(5) Can I erase this unfortunate incidence from my criminal record? How to that in Houston, Texas?

Thank you for reading this post and I am looking forward to have your feedbacks.

Expungement/pardon

Standard answer: Expungement is generally granted for illegal arrests or unlawful convictions. Generally, pardons mean you are forgiven for the crime but it remains on your record.

Check with the governor or attorney general of your state to see how you can go about either of these procedures. Check with the Attorney General or the President for federal expungement or pardon.
